our breeding
Leopards & Bengals
The breeding season of leopard cats varies depending on climate. In tropical habitats, kittens are born throughout the year. In colder habits farther north, females give birth in spring. Their gestation period is 60 – 70 days. Litter sizes varies between 2 and 3 kittens.
BIG STAR BENGALS
Dam’s and Sir’s
We are extremely proud to introduce you to our gorgeous cats. They have all been carefully selected to be part of our breeding program to create completely spectacular kittens.
Let us introduce you to the beautiful creatures we get to spend all day with;
Sirs
KEN DOLL
Snow Lynx
Named for his confident swagger and handsome good looks, KEN DOLL gets all the ladies because he has a charm about him that nobody can resist. We spare no expense to acquire the best; KEN DOLL’s lineage are prize winning specimens on his fathers and mothers side, he inherited very strong and muscular broad shoulders, toned structure and markings on his thick and sparkling coat. Imported from Persia, you can tell he speaks a different language and he is very vocal, we don’t understand anything he says but he has a wonderful deep purr that vibrates like cell phone.
KEN DOLL’s eyes are something else, no photo filters used here at Big Star, they are the most magical and iridescent, beautiful aqua blue we have ever seen and so bright you almost can’t see his irises, we were worried here at Big Star at first that this may be some sort of defect that blinds him, but no, his eyes are impeccable. He’s also a BIG boy and people swear he must be magnetized to the floor, which would make anyone think twice about trying to lift him, but most of his weight comes from his big heart, in his well-mannered way; he will let you know he is your friend on the floor… but IF you can lift him; he loves being in your arms all day.
As an additional note: At the visit to our trusted vet regarding his testing to get out of quarantine at arrival to the cattery and the testing of KEN DOLL’s eyes, there were a lot of remarks from veterinary staff regarding his “exceptionally sized” testicles… pretty sure that’s the confidence you see in his smile…and may be part of his gravity attraction?
ATMOSPHERE
Silver-Mink Bengal
ATMOSPHERE is bred of good lines from France and there are very few of his lineage in Canada at this moment. ATMOSPHERE’s superior quality pelt has thick, silky and wild looking rosettes, wonderful color contrast and a very thick tail, which make him an excellent choice to breed with a leopard-Bengal and also make him very photogenic. His structure is very solid with great posture; proper proportions and musculature which give him a very athletic demeanor. ATMOSPHERE is new to our cattery and still timid, however he is a very sweet boy with a lot of respect for his new cat family and obviously getting a lot of attention from the ladies. His soft personality is another rare attribute you would want when breeding from Asian Leopards to help the offspring be as social as possible.
With ATMOSPHERE being a Silver-Mink, when bred with any of our Mink females; the mother will have the potential to create any of the Bengal snows. We are very lucky to have this handsome rarity as a part of our breeding program and we look forward to sharing his offspring with the world.
Dames
CANDY LOVE
Gold/Brown Bengal
CANDY LOVE, what a gentile mommy to her kittens, and she has the softest, most glorious pelt … and so much glitter its hard to photograph her without a polarized lens. This stunning Bengal really turns heads when she’s out on her leash. Most people who see her think she’s a Leopard. Her body and face have beautiful structure, she is very private and territorial but her personality is affectionate with the people she knows and her intelligence is very high, she doesn’t waste her time with just anyone; but once you get to know her well, she can almost hold a conversation about finances and self-improvement.
CANDY LOVE’s rosettes and lines were achieved through careful breeding with the purpose of creating a wild looking Bengal. We call her our “little Latina” because she knows she’s sexy and wears her cougar pattern well, but she has a trashy side; she likes to play with the garbage… she’s happier with tin foil, paper, string and boxes than with any store-bought toy.
IONE
F3 Bengal-Asian Leopard
IONE is one of the daughters of our PRAIRIE, so she is the granddaughter of a wild Asian Leopard. Being a third generation away from the Leopard makes her a lot more sociable while keeping a lot of the sought after traits we want in the best quality F4 Bengals. IONE’s offspring will give fertile females and fertile males, its only after four generations we can achieve fertile males.
Temperament wise: IONE is a bit more reserved than her sister MAJA and she is also camera shy, when she became a teenager her hormones went wild (bad pun) – we haven’t been able to get many good captures of her but she is gentile, active and talkative when we are not looking.
IONE has been created by PRAIRIE and MIDAS, we are loving her whole face. The whisker pads, eyes, nose, whiting, small ears, high contrasting, small rosettes mixed with spots, her front skull. Just love her!
On the downside of this beauty: her tail is a bit thin for our liking and it has a white locket fault right on the tip. Knowing strengths is one thing but being aware of the faults you are working to improve as a breeder is even more important. When she is paired we will keep these details in mind. We are certain that her offspring will be award winning.
We will be breeding her soon, if you are thinking you’ll want a stunning Bengal, add yourself to our mailing list or
make a reservation.
PRAIRIE
F2 Bengal-Asian Leopard
PRAIRIE is an extremely rare specimen that very few people have had the privilege to hold and successfully breed from here in Canada. PRAIRIE is the daughter of a PURE ASIAN LEOPARD, her
intelligence is far superior to most pets and she bonds extremely closely to her owner; Much like her LEOPARD mother, PRAIRIE is a very reclusive feline. As an F2, she will have only a very few kittens in springtime that are F3, (two of our dames; MAJA and IONE are her daughters).
PRAIRIE is a breeding miracle, very hard to achieve because there has to be a “magic” between the female LEOPARD and a classic cat…these leopards are choosy for good survival reasons and the males have to be very, very confident in her presence, plus; the setting has to be perfect and at the right time of year. If you can pull all of this together to be lucky enough to get one kitten; the next miracle is to get the kitten to socialize and trust humans; that’s the time consuming effort WE put in to make these rare kittens a true treasure.
So PRAIRIE WAS CREATED; One in a million odds, and we hit the jackpot because she has striking blue eyes, plus, the best of both sides of the family tree because she retained much of the Asian leopard’s physical appearance; her body, in general, is much stockier and muscular; she is very powerful and much faster than your average house cat. Her face has everything you’d see on a Leopard; very small ears, large nocturnal eyes, black eyeliner, a thick and muscular neck for wrestling prey and going to very broad shoulders with a straight back to long hind legs, PLUS; she is a very gentile cat and caring mother who carries all snow colors and gold in her genetics. PRAIRIE’S pelt is like nothing most people have ever put their hands on, it’s surprisingly short and dense but as soft as a mink. Her rosettes are all over her body, even on her white belly and her tail is relatively short and thick with a pure black tip. Her voice will startle most at first
because she can sound a bit intimidating; she sounds nothing like a house cat but more like a Jaguar, and she is very talkative once you bond with her. F2’s don’t smile much for the camera, as you can see here in her photos, and you can see in the photos that she is a bit heavy looking, that’s because she is presently expecting a kitten so she
is extra reclusive unless she is out looking for food.
MAJA
F3 Bengal-Asian Leopard
MAJA is an extremely rare specimen that very few people have had the privilege to hold here in Canada. MAJA is the granddaughter of a pure Asian leopard, her intelligence is far superior to most pets and she bonds extremely closely to her owner; MAJA will always be at our side, even in the shower. As an F3, she will have only a very few kittens in springtime that are F4, also known as SBT (stud book tradition) of the highest quality possible.
MAJA was bred to retain as much of the Asian leopard’s physical appearance as possible, her body, in general, is much stockier and muscular; she is very powerful and much faster than your average house cat. Her face has everything you’d see on a Leopard; very small ears, broad cheeks and strong jaw, large nocturnal eyes with black eyeliner and a thick muscular neck for wrestling prey. MAJA’S pelt is like nothing most people have ever put their hands on, it’s surprisingly short and dense but as soft as a mink. Her rosettes are all over her body, even on her white belly and her tail is relatively short and thick with a pure black tip. Her voice will startle most at first because she can sound a bit intimidating; she sounds nothing like a house cat but more like a Jaguar, and she is very talkative, MAJA will always call out if she doesn’t see us because we wandered off to far… but her voice is beautiful and always makes us laugh because she so darned cute.
As a side note; MAJA doesn’t smile much, as you can see here in her photos, we assume it’s because she thinks smiling will wrinkle her beautiful skin and she wants to look beautiful, wild and young forever.
